Celebrate a bit of Kerry Rí-Rá with an evening climb on the summit of Strickeen. Dance a Kerry Set on this Charity trek in aid of Kerry Parents and Friends, departs at 7.30pm from Kate Kearney’s Cottage.
Strickeen is part of MacGillycuddy’s Reeks mountain range, at 440m, it follows a path to the top until an ancient cairn/ritual greets the walker. Struicín means ‘little peak’ or ‘crested ridge’, with a prehistoric Cairn on the summit. The track zig zags and winds up to a boggy summit. Here is where the ‘craic’ begins – Walkers will be asked to dance an entire Kerry Polka on the summit, just bring a tin whistle and a bodhrán! Musicians at the ready.
